The annual Lawrence High School Fall Picnic and Club Fair is always the best way to kick off a fresh school year! On Friday, September 18th during both resource periods, many of LHS’s clubs and student organizations set up tables along the track to welcome interested and returning members. In addition to meeting with club representatives and learning about upcoming interest meetings, students were also encouraged to play games set up on the field and enjoy the warm, sunny day. Many students enjoyed the opportunity to hang out with their friends while also getting that much-needed fresh air and open space. This event gave students the opportunity to learn a bit more about how they can be connected with the rest of the Cardinal Community.

Not only is this event amazing for the students in LHS, but it also benefits the clubs and allows them to continue to grow their membership! Sophomore Nico Mauger, one of the co-presidents of the LHS Robotics Club, mentioned how, “The club fair helped [them] recruit nearly 30 new club members” and that the fair helped them “grow the club a massive amount.” Nico reported that one of the ways that allowed the Robotics Club to increase their numbers is his promise that for each student that signed up, he would do one push up. There’s nothing like staying fit and adding more members to your club at the same time! Similarly, the Anime and Manga Club was able to host a raffle for the chance to win a manga. In order to be entered, students simply had to start the conversation and learn how to get involved. Many other clubs like Hope Squad, Bring Change to Mind, Tangents Literary & Creative Arts Magazine, and even the Lawrencian, met so many new members, and are excited for a great year ahead!

The human need for connection, not only as a school or as a community, but as people, is incredibly important. Thank you, Red and White and Student Council, for giving students the chance and the space to learn how to make friends and connections through the many clubs and organizations Lawrence High School has to offer!
