Highlighting Younity’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month Event
Written by: Lianna Bakaradze-Marin (‘28)
On October 10th from 1-3 PM, Younity had their “Cozy Crafts & Community Service” event at Artworks in Trenton to honor Domestic Violence Awareness Month, put on by the Younity Peer Educators to educate teens about preventing domestic violence in dating by making crafts for a cause to earn community service hours!

If you aren’t already familiar, Younity (formerly known as Womanspace) is the leading non-profit agency that provides support and resources to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Mercer County. Younity makes huge impacts in the community, providing easy accessibility to a 24 hour cell-phone hotline, housing, counseling, advocacy, and crisis response.
Not to mention, Younity offers a Peer Educator program (led by Grace Flagler and Ken Odenheimer), which allows rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors attending high school in Mercer County to educate other teens in the community about healthy relationships, consent, and prevention of domestic and sexual violence.

During their “Cozy Crafts & Community Service” event at Artworks, students in Mercer County, who registered ahead of time, met together with the Peer Educators to do various activities and crafts relating to raising awareness for domestic violence.
Activities included reading out a story and identifying healthy vs. unhealthy relationships, making perler bead keychains that also display Younity’s hotline, writing safe space cards for people in the community, making string bracelets, and decorating Younity’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month banner with positive messages, all while having group discussions.
