LHS cheerleaders at the homecoming football game against Burlington City

on October 11th 2025.

A high-flying spectacle or an intense workout? With every synchronized jump and highly practiced routines, the Lawrence High cheerleading squad is definitely more than just a halftime attraction. The homecoming football game was one to remember. The rain was coming down and the crowd was trying to stay dry, but there was one group who was out there still performing, keeping the crowd hyped up: The cheerleaders! The Lawrence High cheer squad has had a strong season. They cheer day and night! From bringing the energy every game, keeping the crowd engaged and motivating our sports team, they truly bring the pep that we need to Lawrence.

The cheer coaches are Dana Brackett and Emily Papp. The senior team captains are Diana Doliwa, Sandra Sasin, Sabine Dalladra and Julia Zaluska. These girls have been a part of the cheerleading squad since they were freshmen, and are now mentoring and supporting their fellow underclassmen.

Having just joined the LHS Cheerleading squad, freshman cheerleader Natalia Maciejewski shared about her past cheerleading experience, and how it influences her time as a cheerleader now:

What made you want to join cheerleading?

“I have loved cheer ever since my mom put me into it at 5. I think what made me continue doing it was seeing how much I enjoyed doing things were rhythm and my voice.”

What role or position do you usually take on the team (flyer, base, backspot, captain, etc.)?

Usually flyer and back spot.

Do you have a favorite game or performance moment so far this season?

“Yes, definitely the first high school home game I ever cheered at. I think seeing how much fun and exciting being on the track made it my favorite”

How does your team prepare for games and halftime shows?

“We always have a practice the day before dedicated to the games, and we take a lot of time practicing every practice on stunts, dances, and cheers. It’s a lot of repetition and learning, but it is definitely worth it.”

What’s your favorite cheer, chant, or routine to perform at games?

“Definelty the DUA LIPA dance. I like it because it’s a lot more dancey, which I enjoy the most in cheer.”

What’s a favorite memory you have from your time on the team?

“My favorite memory would have to be either riding back on the bus from away games or team bonding/ banner painting. Both of these are my favorite because the whole team gets together to not only be with each other, but also do things outside from practice.”

All in all, there is definitely more beyond the bows. As the LHS cheerleading team continues to bring energy and spirit to the community, this behind-the-scenes look proves that their success is one to appreciate. Their hard work and enthusiasm will forever be valued. Support our fellow cheerleaders and cheers to an unforgettable fall cheerleading season!
