As the fall season hits its stride, the Girls Cross Country team continues to push through early-morning practices, challenging workouts, and long runs.
Coach Timothy Collins commended the team’s determination and focus, saying, “The Girls Cross Country team is slowly building up their fitness and focusing on the end-of-year Championship races. We are not where we would like to be at the beginning of the season fitness-wise, but we are confident that with hard work, we will achieve our team and individual goals.”

Leading the way are senior captains Talya Weiss and Baeleigh Thomas, who have guided their teammates with enthusiasm and commitment. Weiss reflected on what it’s been like to take on a leadership role this year: “Leading any team is a difficult job, but this year we have a smaller team of mostly upperclassmen, so it’s definitely a lot easier. Everyone already knows what they’re supposed to be doing and is already working really hard.”
Both captains agree that the heart of cross country extends beyond the racecourse. For Weiss, the highlight of the season has been “pre-meet pasta parties because hanging out with my team while eating carbs is always a lot of fun.” Thomas echoed this sense of camaraderie, saying, “The highlights of every season for me have always just been getting to show up each day, spend time with my teammates, and have fun on each run.”

When it comes to offering advice to younger runners, Weiss and Thomas both emphasized consistency, motivation, and joy. “Try to run with someone else,” Weiss shared. “Many days it’s hard to feel motivated, but having someone to push you helps you stay committed.” Thomas added, “Stay consistent and work hard, but never forget it’s about having fun and actually enjoying going to practice.”
One standout this season has been junior Isabelle “Izzy” Meth, who has already broken one of the school’s course records and ranks among the top runners in the county. Congratulations, Izzy!
With dedication, leadership, and team spirit driving them forward, the Girls Cross Country team is proving that the journey is just as meaningful as the finish line. Good luck, Cardinals!
