What do you do when you come up with an idea out of the blue? Does it fade as fast as it pops up in your head? Or does it linger in your mind with no signs of leaving until the fictional daydream becomes a reality? For me, it’s always been a mix of both. I have lots of things I want to accomplish. Ideas swim around my head and I claim to myself that someday I’ll get to them. I’ve never been good with staying committed to personal projects and when it comes to taking action to do something that I want to do, I quickly lose the motivation to even try. The original idea of making the Anime and Manga Fan Club was at first an idea that I believed was going to be assigned the same fate as some of my other ideas. This time though, I decided that for once I should do something different and take a risk.

If you know me, you know that I’m in fact an anime fan. It’s always been my main interest and when you put me in the right crowd, I can be quite the talker. When you find someone else with the same interests as you, don’t you immediately want to connect with them? I’ve always been up for making new friends and connections and I wanted to help others connect with people that have fun doing the same things as them: watching anime and reading manga.

I was at first very hesitant in creating the club since I was worried about facing criticism from others and getting made fun of for making a ‘nerdy’ club. That worry was nearly enough to make me drop the idea and move on, but after seeing all the support from my friends in making it, I decided that even though I was uncertain about all the possible risks, I should do what I want to do especially with all the people behind me.

I wanted to make the last couple years of high school for me and others fun and make memories. I also wanted to grow my confidence by learning to lead and take initiative. I believe taking risks and doing what you want to do is how you truly grow as a person. Plans for the Anime and Manga Fan club have been in the workshop since June of 2025, or possibly even earlier, and it was in the process of being created since the beginning of the school year. Now fast forward to now, with February 18, 2026, being our first meeting, I can see that it has truly been a journey. I worked this far to better my confidence and to create fun memories. I mean, what’s there to lose?
