This previous month, we welcomed our Class of 2029 class officers. We are very excited for them to be a part of the student council executive board and we know they will work hard to make the freshmen feel represented. We have already seen the impact they have created and we can't wait to see what they will achieve in the future. To provide a perspective of what plans they have and what they enjoy about Lawrence High School, we asked them a few questions:
-What made you want to be a class officer?
-What ideas do you have to make your class successful?
-What are some of your favorite things about the LHS student council?
Mohammed Elsounbaty - (President)- I wanted to be a class officer because it was something new that I haven't done before and I believed that I could bring new things to the school. My plan is to just implement small things that go the long way for the school. Things that will be remembered and carried on. I love how the student council tries to take every idea into consideration whether it be changed a bit or improved. They always listen and try.
Norah Schmidt - (Vice President) For me I wanted to be a class officer because I knew it would be a good opportunity for me not only to work on my leadership and presentation skills, but to test myself with the responsibilities and hardships of our school. I have found a great community in our school and I now want to give back. Some ideas to make our class successful is just to try and get better oriented and educated on days where we are supposed to either dress up or support a cause because my main goal is to work on teamwork and connection between grades and people within them. Some of my favorite things about LHS student council are the friendships you make and the fun activities and decisions we have to agree upon. It always gives me a sense of belonging and it's fun to know what's going on in our school.
Niyati Chintagunta - (Secratary) I wanted to be a class officer to help with the freshman class because there are so many opinions and voices in our class. I wanted to have this leadership position so I could aid with their concerns and ideas! I have multiple ideas for fundraisers, but I really want to make the suggestion box possible. It's quick, easy, and anonymous so we can find out what we need to improve to make everyone's school year enjoyable. Everyone in StuCo is extremely welcoming; it feels like a big family. They are so helpful and told us exactly what to do. We had a great time and I encourage everyone to get involved!
Prashitha Kanipaku - (Treasury) I wanted to be a class officer because it would give me real world experience that would help me develop skills like leadership and communication. An idea I have is a drive-in movie night where there is a projector outside and people can drive in with their families and friends to watch the movie. We can also sell snacks at the event. My favorite thing about the LHS student council is the activities that we do. It's really nice feeling more involved in school. I also love the bonds I have created with everyone.
Emily Koehler - (Historian) I wanted to become a class officer to make the school a better environment for people transitioning from LMS and for the students who are coming from different schools. Some ideas that I have to make my class more successful is to have more entertaining activities like volleyball games, having more fundraisers, and to have spirit days or events. These types of events are going to build my class to have a stronger relationship with each other. Some of the favorite things about the LHS student council is how we come together to think of fundraisers and different types of events to do as a class. Another thing I love is how everyone is so welcoming and the bonds I have created with them.
