The Lawrence High School boys’ and girls’ swimming teams capped off the 2024–25 season with standout performances, school records, and rising stars making their mark in the pool.
The swim team, led by Head Coaches Ryan Shive and Hilary Hargraves-Dix, and Assistant Coach Emily Palombo, finished the season with a 6–6 overall record and a 1–5 mark in the Colonial Valley Conference – Colonial Division. Under the leadership of Boys’ Captains Vlado Nikolov, Kian Khojastepour, and Carter Edwards, and Girls’ Captains Hope Lestician and Molly Romaine, the teams put up a strong fight throughout the entire season.
A major highlight that the team remarks fondly of was the performance of Yusuf Kurbetdinov, Aidan Verga, Nick Straka, and Josh DeMarco at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions. The quartet shattered four school records during the meet, showcasing their speed and teamwork on a state stage. Leading the charge was Josh DeMarco, who earned top-8 finishes in both the 200 Individual Medley and the 500 Freestyle, solidifying his place among New Jersey’s elite high school swimmers.
Additionally, the swimming journey of junior Zoe Snellings was recognized this year. Swimming since she was 6 years old, Zoe has continued to build an exceptional career. As a freshman, Snellings competed in all 11 events during dual meets, racking up eight first-place finishes, 12 seconds, and 12 thirds. In her sophomore season, she tackled every event except the 50 free, earning 10 wins, 19 runner-up finishes, and five third-place placements. She also delivered strong performances at last year’s Mercer County Tournament, finishing in the top 12 in both the 200 and 500 freestyle, the medley relay, and the 400 freestyle relay.
Both teams performed exceptionally well during their season, with the boys' team achieving significant success and the girls' team laying the groundwork for future accomplishments. We are so proud of the Boys and Girls Swimming Team!
