This upcoming year, Lawrence High School is thrilled to welcome our first group of students into the brand-new Career Academies - an exciting program connecting students to their careers in high school and beyond. All academy members are current sophomores who applied last spring and were specially selected to participate. They hope that they will continue in their chosen academy throughout high school, gaining valuable experiences that will prepare them for life after graduation.
"I’m thrilled to lead one of the new academies. My hope is that students discover their passions, build confidence, and gain the skills they’ll need for college, careers, and life after LHS”, shares Mrs. Brunner, advisor of the Innovations Academy. The Business Academy, advised by Mr. Tees, connects interested students to opportunities in the world of business and beyond. Ms. Andahazy’s Science and Health Academy explores the real applications of science and health in careers, aiming to make an impact in our community and beyond. Finally, the Education Academy, led by Mrs. Huber, supports students interested in the field of education, providing them with projects and experiences that further their future prospects in teaching.
The purpose of the Career Academies is to give students real-world learning opportunities that connect what they study in the classroom to their future college and career goals. Each academy helps students explore career interests while still in high school and decide if a field feels like the “right fit” for them.
“I’m hoping for this Innovations Academy to help me explore topics that I am truly passionate about and to help me figure out how exactly I will shape my future”, explains sophomore Serra Elayda, who is currently enrolled in the Innovations Academy.
Along the way, academy students will also build important professional and life skills such as communication, teamwork, and responsibility. They will take part in hands-on learning through internships, special projects, and community service that demonstrate how their education links directly to the world beyond LHS.
The Lawrencian will be covering each academy’s progress and achievements as the school year continues–so stay tuned! LHS is proud to celebrate this first group of sophomores as they begin their academy journeys—preparing today for the opportunities of tomorrow.
