It’s that time of year! People are hanging ornaments on their Christmas trees, spinning their dreidels, and lighting their kinaras. Holiday cheer and festivities have officially commenced! But have you ever wondered what makes these traditions so memorable and wholesome during the holiday season?

Some people, like Riley Barnes (12th), spend time baking with their families. She says that, “We set aside a whole weekend and make hundreds of cookies. We make anywhere between 5-8 different kinds of cookies.” Riley shares that she will send out her cookies to her family members, as well as for her younger siblings to leave out for Santa. Riley also says that, “Being in the kitchen with 16 people and making hundreds of cookies with Christmas music playing is definitely full of chaos, but it is, and will forever be, [her] favorite memory to be a part of and look back on.”

Others, like Amolika Bhatia (9th), will attend holiday events with their families. Every year, her parents, her sister, and she all go to the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball. The Jingle Ball is a large annual holiday concert where many of the year’s top artists will perform both holiday music as well as their biggest hits. When asked what she enjoys about this tradition, she says, “It’s my favorite because I love live music, and it’s super fun to be able to go see some of my favorite music artists and get to hear new music.” Amolika also shares how, this year, she got to meet the members of her favorite band, AJR.

No matter what your holiday season entails, just remember what really matters: Remember to spend time with people you love, savor the moment, and spread positivity and cheer. Have a wonderful holiday season, and a happy New Year, LHS!
