Girls Soccer: A Season To Remember!

The Lawrence High School Girls Soccer team had an incredible season this year! From setting new records to carrying each other through major wins, this team demonstrated the importance of teamwork and determination. Perhaps the most notable moment of this season is best captured when each player, coach, and community member watched in awe as the team collectively reached the CVC first sectional final, which was last done 24 years ago! In order to fully capture the excitement, the joy, and all the emotions this season brought, the Lawrencian reached out to some players to get their comments!

Senior player Liliana Calderone shared that “The highlight of my season was beating Hopewell in the semi finals. We all came together and played an amazing game to pull out the win against a team we had lost to many times before and advance to the next round of states.” Calderone’s words only begin to describe how much this victory meant to the team, especially considering the hard work they put in to achieve this win against a historically rival team. Sharing similar sentiments, junior Caelyn LaFlamme added that “It was a surreal feeling and was such an awesome game to play in. The environment was so intense but [it was] such a great game.” The electric feeling of this game will certainly remain as the senior players conclude their high school careers and the underclassmen players prepare for their next season.

This season’s success would not have been possible without the guidance and discipline of Coach Emily Palombo and Assistant Coach Kelsey Holt. When asked to comment on the extraordinary season the girls had this year, Coach Palombo said, “As coaches, we are so beyond proud of our girls. They overcame many obstacles this season with grit and determination. We started playing our best soccer at the right time, and they came together as a team. This group loved each other and played well together, and it allowed us to be successful. I am so happy they got the moments that they did because they deserved it!”

Naturally, the players echoed the same praise for their coaches, collectively stating: “Shoutout to Holt and Palombo for always being there for us and supporting us through everything this season! We love you!”

All in all, the Lawrence High School Girls Soccer team gave it their all and played a tremendous season. They are more than deserving of the recognition earned by their hard work and resilience. We wish all players a restful off-season!
