Monday to Friday, before, during and after school, Officer Lamont can be seen around Lawrence High School keeping everyone safe. From monitoring the halls to teaching in Driver’s Education classes to checking that every door is locked outside to being out on Princeton Pike directing traffic for the buses, Officer Lamont can be seen doing it all, and more. But who is Officer Lamont?
Last March, Officer Lamont began working at the high school, with notice that Officer Austin, the school’s prior resource officer, would be leaving to defend our country across seas. In
March, Officer Austin taught and prepared Officer Lamont about the school environment and what his role would be. Come April, when Officer Austin was deployed, Officer Lamont would be ready to step up into his role.
Officer Lamont is thirty-nine years old. As a kid, he grew up in Trenton, then moved to Hamilton when he was thirteen. His favorite subject in school was Biology because he found (and still finds) the human body very interesting. He originally wanted to become a doctor when he was younger so then he could help others, but he’s already doing that by being our School’s Resource Officer!
After High School, Officer Lamont attended Saint Francis University in west Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh, on a football scholarship. He played football for them for two years, but got injured and had to hang up the cleats. He didn’t know what to do with himself afterward so he came back to his roots in Mercer County where he finished his education in Lawrenceville at Rider University with a degree in Sociology and a minor in Law and Justice. He also met and married his wife here, and has raised a family of two daughters and a dog.
After college, Officer Lamont attended Mercer County Police Academy to become a police officer. “It was challenging, mentally, and physically,” but he persevered and graduated with fifty others as part of the 14th class. Afterwards, he became a police dispatcher in 2009, then joined Lawrence Township Police Department as a night-shift patrolman in 2015, and then switched to day shifts in 2020. Now, since April 2025, Officer Lamont has worked as the high school’s resource officer, but is still a patrolman when not working there.
Officer Lamont always wanted to go into the medical field with his interest in biology to become a doctor or go into the educational field to become a teacher; both where he would get the opportunity to help others. Specifically, however, he realized he wanted to help the youth and make sure they feel safe, while utilizing his legal background, which is why he became a police officer, and now, a school resource officer. He always wanted to “act like a role model” so that “kids will look back at me as an officer like students do to a really good professional athlete.”
In his free time, Officer Lamont loves to watch sports, turning on ESPN and rooting for his Philadelphia Eagles, 76ers, Phillies and Flyers. Officer Lamont also has a deep love for cooking, always preparing dishes for his family and friends. His favorite time of year are the winter holidays, especially Thanksgiving, where he gets to cook and bake a diverse range of foods for everyone around him to enjoy. He even stated that he gets more satisfaction from everyone around him enjoying his food than from himself enjoying it. Later in life, when Officer Lamont is closer to retirement, he wishes to open his very own food truck.
The students, staff, and faculty of Lawrence High School are so happy to have Officer Lamont!
