Game On! An interview with the E-Sports Club

Kevin Mah ('24) & Ryan Schloesser ('24)

Hosting a wide variety of clubs for students, Lawrence High School introduces the new Esports club! But what exactly is Esports? Also known as electronic sports, Esports is a form of competitive gaming and has surged in popularity over the past few years. In fact, many schools have welcomed the inclusion of Esports teams, with Lawrence High School proudly being one of them. But to find out more, we interviewed the co-founder of the club, Jacob Silber, to give us some additional information.

What games does the club have?

Right now, we have anything that students might want. The main games we have are Apex, Valorant, and Rocket League since those are the games that everyone seems to enjoy playing.

Does the school provide the equipment to play these games?

Yes. Any consoles, controllers, or headsets will be provided by the school, but you won’t be allowed to take them home with you. We don’t have the equipment currently, but we are working on getting most of it.

Are there any plans for competitions in the future?

Absolutely, and we actually tried getting an Apex tournament up and running with Princeton. Tournaments overall are largely in our radar for us and we plan on having competitions between all games and platforms.

What kind of students are you looking for to join?

We want everyone to join. Mainly students who might have more time on their hands, but everyone is welcome to join.

What would you say to people who might be interested in joining?

It’s not what everyone thinks it is. A lot of people think you just come here to play games, but everyone kind of ignores the core part of it, which is to just have fun and meet new people along with being the best of the best.

Interested in the Esports club?

The esports club meets after school on Thursdays starting at 2:40 in room 305. If you have any questions or are interested in joining the club please email jzuczek@ltps.info or jacob.silber@ltps.info.
