On Thursday May 9, Lawrence High School's Varsity Golf team capped off their season against Hopewell Valley. Lawrence’s golf team recorded a season low of 157 in their last match with sophomore Joshua Kriegel and senior Ryan Schloesser both finishing their seasons with scores of 2 over par. Although the team's record doesn't reflect it, the golf team had a very strong season, with multiple wins and numerous occasions of close matches including a loss to Robensville by one stroke and a win over Hightstown by two strokes. With a majority of the team returning for the 2025 season, the Lawrence High School Varsity Golf Team looks to have a very successful season ahead of them. To learn more about the golf team, we asked Senior Arin Shetty and Junior Rohan Rao to answer a few questions and give their final thoughts on the 2024 golf season.
How do you think the season went?
“The season went pretty well overall, Although our team did not win as many matches as we would have liked, we were a competitive team in a conference full of difficult competition. There were many occasions of matches coming down to one or two strokes.” -Rohan Rao
What is your favorite memory from being on the golf team?
“Playing a best ball scramble with my teammates was by far my favorite memory on the golf team. These scrambles are a fun competition where each team of four players competes for the lowest score while only playing the best ball after every shot. This allows for some very low scores such as our last scramble where my team won with a score of two under par. I even had my first birdie in one of these scrambles when I holed out from over a hundred yards away on hole five of Mountain View Golf Course.” -Arin Shetty
What was your favorite course to play this season?
“Fortunately we were able to play many different courses throughout the season, but my favorite place to play golf has to be our home course Cobblestone Creek Country Club. The course is always in good shape and it consistently provides a fun but challenging round for anyone. A close second would be Trenton Country club where we played our last match of the season. It's a difficult course with many hills, but the conditions were great and my teammates and I had a lot of fun playing it. ” -Rohan Rao
Do you think you will continue to play golf after being on the golf team for three years?
“One hundred percent. When I first started playing golf it was frustrating and I found myself struggling to enjoy the game, but when I started figuring out my swing and hitting the ball—well I never looked back. I now find myself looking to play golf whenever I can. I play on the weekends and even after school some days. It's definitely a sport I look forward to playing for many years to come.” -Arin Shetty
What was the strongest part of your game this year?
“I would say my putting was the strongest part of my game this year. Although my driving and iron game has improved significantly since I started playing sophomore year, my putting has always been a strong suit. At nearly every practice, I spent time working on creating a smooth and consistent putter stroke that would allow me to be confident when putting on the green.” -Arin Shetty
