Transition from Middle School to High School

Rishi Anarkat ('25) & Pranav Soleti ('26)

“I can't believe I'm going to be a freshman in a couple of months! What am I going to do in high school that will make me fit in, and prepare me for college?” says Dishant Palker, an incoming 9th grader. Dishant, like many other incoming freshmen, is faced with this overwhelming dilemma: entering high school and figuring out the best way to get involved while also preparing himself for college. For those of you who feel just like Dishant, don’t feel bad, because you are not alone. The purpose of this article is to help ease this feeling of anxiety by providing information about the high school and resources that you can use for any further questions.

Lawrence High School provides a variety of activities where you can connect with your peers and pursue your passions. International Alliance, Stem Academy, SSH (Students Helping Honduras), Debate Club, and DECA are just a few of the many clubs offered at the high school. We encourage you to get involved with extracurriculars because you can make new friends, develop your passions and interests into career opportunities, and have fun while learning. Extracurriculars also look great on college applications, so take advantage of them!

As incoming freshmen, special resources will be available to you to help ease the transition into high school. Before school starts in September, there will be a special freshman orientation in August to introduce you to Lawrence High School. The date will be emailed to you, so check your emails! Beginning at the start of the school year, there will be a select group of Juniors and Seniors called “Peer Leaders” who will visit your resource periods to answer any questions and inform you of any important information. Finally, you will always have guidance available to answer any specific questions that Peer Leaders or other students cannot.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact one of us!
