Lawrence High School’s marching band and color guard season is coming to a close, so let’s look back at their season and the activity itself. The band plays at every football game and attends competitions over the weekends plus two weeks of band camp over the summer and after school practices three times a week. These practices were used learning pep tunes, basics, and preparing for their 2025 show, Medusa.
The school marching band is a strong part of our community as many students take part and demonstrate school spirit at games, competitions, and to form friendships between all of the grades. For anyone hesitant to join Red Scare or didn’t know about it till now, we encourage you to try it. As the Color Guard instructor, Mrs. Meyer said, “Give it a try. It just requires attendance, and effort, and anyone can do it.”
Their 2025 field show Medusa, features solos from seniors Vanathi Ram. and Nishka Desai, and was led by their drum major Kieran Hanna, with the role of Medusa being played by Arpana Arulmohan and Athena being played by Saniya Jasper-Garner. All performers committed to pull off a great show and to tell the story of Medusa.

The band is led by three directors and seven students in a leadership role. The role of
leadership is to teach new drills, marching technique, music, choreography, and to step up as role models in the band. The positions include woodwinds captain, brass captain, percussion captain, two color guard captains, a marching and maneuvering captain and our 2025 drum major Kieran Hanna. with him representing the band as a whole. He is in charge of conducting the group and giving directions, like what to do and where to go, as well as keeping the band together and in check.

Overall, marching band is about all grades and different types of people coming together to perform a show for school spirit. Its main priority is to teach discipline, responsibility, but most importantly to form friendships. Like Marching Band Director ‘BSG’ says “where spending more time together then the typical club is so we get to form bonds, and friendships and love that other places might not be able to”.
